I’m the founder of Art Biz Coach and the Art Biz Blog and the author of I’d Rather Be in the Studio! The Artist’s No-Excuse Guide to Self-Promotion.
I’ve been writing the weekly Art Marketing Action newsletter since 2002 and producing the Art Marketing Action podcast since 2007.
I’ve given artist workshops and keynote addresses in 21 states in the U.S.
I have 3 cats, love to do the Sunday crossword (though it takes me all week), appeared on the front page of the New York Times in 1987, and am a whiz at gluten-free baking.
I have tried almost everything I teach in my workshops.
I am a former museum curator and educator, who left the museum world in 2001 to pursue my dream of living in Colorado.
I have a necklace–commissioned from artist Shannon Sunderland–that says “Fearless,” but it’s more of a talisman than something I feel in my gut.
I always thought I knew more than most of my bosses (of course, I didn’t), so it’s good that I’m in charge now.
Almost everyone who attends my workshops is ecstatic that they made the effort. For one of my workshops, I had artists from 8 states + Canada. Some artists drive or fly long distances to attend.
I subtitle the workshops with the phrase “No Excuses” (like my book). I don’t put up with whining or complaining at my workshops. I expect to work with professionals. Come with a great attitude and you’ll be rewarded!
I wouldn’t travel to give workshops if I didn’t love meeting artists in person and we didn’t have fun. Yes, it’s work, but I promise that we have fun.
I love my readers, clients, and subscribers! Artists not only keep me on my toes, but you are generous with your gratitude. I, in return, am grateful to be able to do what I do.
